SHA hash generator
Paste text and pick the algorithm. Your browser computes the hash; the text is not sent anywhere.
Result
How it is calculated
- The text is encoded as UTF-8, then hashed by the browser’s Web Crypto API.
- The result is shown as lowercase hexadecimal or Base64.
- Any change to the text, even one space, changes the whole hash.
Example
The SHA-256 of “hello” starts with 2cf24dba5fb0a30e.
Good to know
- Hashing is not encryption: it cannot be decrypted, but short or common text can be found by guessing.
- SHA-1 is no longer collision resistant and MD5 is not offered. To store passwords, use bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2.
