- 30
How it is calculated
- Code styles split the text into words at spaces, punctuation and case changes (myHTTPServer → my, HTTP, Server).
- They apply line by line.
- The slug removes accents, lowercases and keeps only a-z, 0-9 and hyphens.
Example
“Crème brûlée: la recette facile” becomes the slug creme-brulee-la-recette-facile.
Good to know
- Slugs keep Latin letters only: Arabic or Chinese text gives an empty slug.
- Title case does not follow each style guide’s rules for short words.
When to use it
- Create code variable names in camelCase, PascalCase, or snake_case.
- Prepare a readable ASCII slug for a web page URL.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between camelCase and snake_case?
camelCase joins words and capitalizes the start of later words; snake_case joins lowercase words with underscores.
Does a URL slug keep accented letters?
Accents are removed and only a-z, 0-9, and hyphens remain. Non-Latin text may produce an empty slug.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Conversion runs in your browser.
