Inputs
- Your numbers
- 12; 15; 11; 18; 15; 20; 14
How it is calculated
Mean = sum ÷ n. Median = middle value of the sorted list (average of the two middle ones when n is even).

How it is calculated
- Mean = sum ÷ n. Median = middle value of the sorted list (average of the two middle ones when n is even).
- Quartiles by linear interpolation (same method as Excel QUARTILE.INC and R type 7).
- Sample variance = Σ(x − mean)² ÷ (n − 1); population variance = Σ(x − mean)² ÷ n.
- Standard error = sample standard deviation ÷ √n. Coefficient of variation = standard deviation ÷ |mean|.
Example
12, 15, 11, 18, 15, 20, 14: mean 15, median 15, Q1 = 13, Q3 = 16.5, sample variance 10, standard deviation ≈ 3.162278.
Good to know
- Do not replace a missing value with 0: leave it out.
- There are several ways to compute quartiles: other software may give slightly different values.
- Sample figures need at least 2 values. At most 10,000 values.
