How it is calculated
- Where a reference rate is available, it is selected for the chosen country; otherwise, the rate you enter is applied.
- With tax = before-tax price × (1 + rate ÷ 100); before-tax price = with-tax price ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). Tax is the difference.
Example
100 before tax at 20% VAT: VAT 20, price with tax 120.
Good to know
- Reference standard rate only: reduced rates, exemptions, additional levies, special territories and cross-border sales rules are not calculated.
- The United States, Canada, Brazil, China and Malaysia do not have one national rate suitable for every case; enter the applicable local rate. Some profiles also have nuances: Ghana may add levies; Indonesia is generally 11% effective, while 12% applies to some luxury goods. The result does not determine whether a transaction is taxable.
